BAYERN MUNICH ENJOYS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL NIGHT AGAINST BARCELONA

Bayern Munich enjoyed another successful night against Barcelona, beating them 2-0 at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona was handed their first loss of the new season on Tuesday as old foes Bayern Munich defeated them 2-0 at the Allianz Arena in the UEFA Champions League. The Bundesliga side beat Barcelona 3-0 home and away in the Champions league group stage last season, while there was an 8-2 win in the not-too-distant past.

That record led to Xavi telling his side ahead of the trip to Munich that they were not going to a “house of horrors” and had reasons to be confident. Barcelona has been impressive from this season, while Bayern came in off the back of three straight Bundesliga draws.

After a strong first half, Xavi's men couldn't carry that into the restart. The Uruguayan struggled to keep the German giants at bay, showing he still has work to do when it comes to leading the Barcelona backline.

Xavi, Barcelona coach, talking to Movistar TV: "We made six or seven big goal chances but missed them and Bayern took their opportunity. We competed, we played very well, and had we scored it would have been a completely different match.

"But of course, if you fail to put chances away against a big rival like Bayern you'll end up paying said Barcelona midfielder Pedri.

Bayern has not failed to score in their last 38 home matches in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The last time was in 2009 vs Bordeaux.

Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern head coach: "In the first half, Barcelona had the better chances than us; our final ball wasn't quite there. It was much better in the second half, and our efficiency made the difference."

Bayern has won each of their last five UEFA Champions League matches against Barcelona and going a little further back, seven of their last eight meetings in the competition.
