ANOTHER FRUSTRATING NIGHT FOR ENGLAND

ANOTHER FRUSTRATING NIGHT FOR ENGLAND

Gareth Southgate’s men desperately needed a win after the Three Lions were relegated to the competition’s second tier through a loss against Italy.

The Three Lions had been 2-0 down, in part thanks to some poor defending from the much-criticized Harry Maguire, before his Manchester United teammate pulled one back.

England produced a rousing comeback against Germany but a late error by Nick Pope let their lead slip away.

For a moment, it appeared like Maguire had gotten away with his errors as England fought hard, Mason Mount then equalized, after great work from fellow sub-Bukayo Saka, before Harry Kane's penalty. Coming back into the game and even momentarily leading 3-2 with quickfire goals.

Ultimately it wasn't enough, as Kai Havertz grabbed an equaliser after Nick Pope had spilt a shot from Serge Gnabry from the edge of the area.

During the Channel 4 interview with Harry Kane, he said,  “That was a lot better. Thought we played really well. We were unfortunate to go 2-0 behind. A mistake and a great goal from the edge of the box. We did really well to stay into the game and get the lead, then unfortunately another error. But the fight in the team, the mentality we showed … we didn’t get the win but we can be proud of what we have done, and it puts us into a good place going into the World Cup.

England team were already relegated from Nations League Group A3 and they have now failed to win six games in a row for the first time in 29 years, but that fightback will at least send supporters away from the national stadium feeling there is still potential to unlock in this group of players, if they can find form and belief before their World Cup kicks off against Iran on November 21.
